Pelikassit was founded in 2005 by a group of childhood friends who were born in the small village of Siivikkala. In 2006 Pelikassit participated the first time in Finnish street hockey tournament taking part in the Vaasa qualification tournament. Pelikassit won the tournament, but to be the Finnish champions Pelikassit had to wait for another few years. In 2008 Pelikassit won the national championship in Helsinki. The championship was a huge surprise for Pelikassit and inspired by that the team organization started to be developed further. Furthermore, thanks to national championship the city of Ylöjärvi awarded Pelikassit as the best team in Ylöjärvi in 2008.

Pelikassit made Finnish Ball Hockey history in 2009, when they represented Finland in the World Championship Tournament in Pilsen. The tournament was a great success for the organization of Pelikassit and also for the sport in Finland. Finnish media acknowledged this sport event and since for example the main TV-channel in Finland followed Team Finland’s (=Pelikassit) games during the tournament. Pelikassit received one again an acknowledgement from the City of Ylöjärvi as they were chosen as the most positive person in 2009.

Pelikassit took part in Euro Cup 2010 in Bratislava. The final place in the tough tournament was seventh. We won tre match, one was tie. Tre match ended of loses. In the tournament Pelikassit’s defensmen Harri Mäenalanen selected in Allstar-team. Also Pelikassit’s famous fangroup was payd attention for fairplay-price.

Pelikassit are still known for their entertaining style of playing, which always keeps the spectators and especially the passionate fan group interested. Nowadays Pelikassit Association has over 1000 members and we are looking forward to have a lot of fun with Ball Hockey in the future and develop the Association. Streethockey is getting more popular each year but a lot is still to be done.

The team of Pelikassit is now stronger than ever and we are waiting a new challenges. One thing is sure : When Pelikassit are in the arena, it is sure that you will feel it.
